    1. Frank Langer is a broken man. Once he was one of the best detectives on the Vancouver, BC, homicide squad. Today his life is one long continuous nightmare. By day, he is beset with guilt. By night, his sleep is wracked by such horrors he can't sleep more than two hours at a time. His only solace is found at the bottom of a bottle. But Frank is still a damn good detective, and when he's asked to help a young mother find her kidnapped baby, he stumbles onto a plot that threatens to end humankind as [...]

    2. Arx - Latin for strongholdFrank Langer was a detective on the Vancouver Homicide Squad - until a year ago. At that point Langer was chasing a serial killer and something so horrendous happened that Langer had a breakdown and has been on medical leave ever since. So in between the drinking bouts, Langer comes across a totally wild conspiracy theory and if people didn't think he was crazy before, guess what they think of him now? Because this is the conspiracy theory to beat all theories and he's g [...]

    3. ~3.5 stars~This was a fast paced and suspenseful read. Upon closure, however, I was left wanting more. It ended on a HFN feel as if it were part of a series, but nothing in book description indicates that this book is anything other then a standalone. I'm still glad I read it and will check out more of this writers work. Also, pleased that it was offered as a kindleunlimited.

    4. I just completed this book having won it on . I'm glad I won it. It's by an author named Jay Allen Storey ( not making that up.) It's a crime story with great narrative and pacing. I read a lot of James Lee Burke and Michael Connelly, and I believe he'll one day be in this company of writers. If you enjoy crime fiction, I think you'll like this book.

    5. I received a free copy of The Arx for review. I really didn’t know what to expect, based on the blurb. Mr Storey’s writing grab me from the start, and has me looking forward to the rest of the series.

    6. Took me by surprise! This novel took me by surprise when it begins to describe the species of the Arx. I was beginning to wonder if the Arx were actually aliens invading Earth and I'm still wondering. This story was well written, moved quickly and hard to put down.

    7. Fun bit of sci fiWonderful story that has a great twist at just the right time to keep you hooked. The side effects from drugs can be mighty concerning

    8. I bought this book with my husband in mind, but I read it first and I have to say that I did enjoy it. I liked the mixture of mystery and sci fi and rated it 4.5 stars.

    9. Frank and Rebecca meet under perilous and bizarre circumstances. Determined to get to the truth, Frank perseveres despite increasing danger. Although not everything is explained, I don't want to give spoilers, overall, a very fun and exciting read.

    10. Compelling StoryStarted reading about10:45pm.When it started getting light outside I knew this was an excellent thriller, sci-fi, action, psychological tale but I really needed some sleep. It's very rare a book will keep me reading all night.

    11. Unexpected twists and turnsThis book kept me in SUSPENSE! I was delighted to note that it was not a typical murder mystery love story type thriller. Awesome read!

    12. Couldn't put it down. A must read.Spellbinding . I never heard of Jay Allan Storey but I put his other writings on my to read list. I almost thought the story was true.

    13. I really enjoyed this story. It started out as a detective novel, then went into conspiracy, which was a nice twist. The detective's struggles with his personal demons were very well written.

    14. Different Just when I thought I had it figured out, it jumped off in a completely different direction. Detective meets sci-fi.
