    1. Overall Rating: 2/5Story: 1/5Characters: 1/5World-Building: 3.5/5Editing/Presentation: 2/5Story: The story was pretty bad. I don’t want to say that, but, to be honest, I don’t even know what the overall story was. There was too much going on and it didn’t make much sense what the main story was supposed to be. I wasn’t sure if we were following James to learn about his parents or if we were supposed to see a relationship develop. The story was a mess, though I did like the quick pacing a [...]

    2. This is what happens when middle grade fiction meets attention deficit disorder, but in a good way. There is so much that is happening in this story set in New York city in the late 1930's as war against Germany is looming. At the center of the story is an underaged, height-challenged orphan named James. His role in this story is not to be overshadowed by the namesake of this book, McGrave's Hotel--an otherworldly place that hosts a slew of interesting paranormal characters who drift in and out [...]

    3. James is a twelve year old boy. His parents were spies and they died on a mission. Since the deaths of his parents James is living in McGrave's Hotel. He also works there as a bellhop. James learned early on that spies will always try to leave a message for their loved ones. It's been a year since his parents died and he hasn't received anything from them yet. He keeps hoping that somewhere someone will find it. Mr. Nash, the night manager, is very fond of James. James is very mature for his age [...]

    4. I know I’ve said it before, but I love Middle Grade books when they are well-written. McGrave’s Hotel is one of those books! It is so much fun, and your middle grade reader (and you) will love all of the quirky, spooky characters that stay at McGrave’s Hotel.James is almost twelve years old and lives at McGrave’s Hotel. His official job is a bellhop, but he is like part of the family at McGrave’s. The other workers tutor him in his schooling and take care of him like he’s their son. [...]

    5. I received this ebook free from the publisher through LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review. This is a great story with a fun and exciting plot. The characters are well developed, fun, and eccentric. The Grave’s Hotel is spooky and haunted and appears to be a destination for strange and eccentric guests. There are horizontal and vertical rooms, missing floors, monsters, a slow elevator, ghosts, Nazi sympathizers, and other unusual and interesting characters. This is the story of the st [...]

    6. I received a copy from the LibraryThing free book giveaway for an honest review. I had great expectations for this book and although it started off very interesting, I think that mid-way it lost its steam. The characters didn't seem to be as developed as I would have liked to have read as I think more time should have been spent on James' past/parents to set up the story. Although it is said that his parents disappeared early on, we only get to understand a bit of his upbringing by chapter 4. I [...]

    7. See my full review of this title on my book blog at: sofewbooks/2016/.What a delightful adventure! James and his new friend Fawn jump from one dangerous exploit to another over the course of the evening and well into the early hours of the morning. He is quite resourceful and quick-witted, however, and enjoys a host of helpful friends and acquaintances, both old and new. This is a solidly middle-grade book, with some frights and even a death or two, but nothing to graphic or violent, but enterta [...]

    8. The interesting thing about this story is that it’s actually not one mystery; there are technically three major ones to be solved throughout the book, as well as a minor conundrum or two.

    9. A great read for young adults with plenty of entertaining characters, a hotel that is more than it seems for the location, and stories to enjoy.
