    1. Death on a Dirty Afternoon is a witty murder mystery set in a seedy English seaside town. The main character Terry is an ex-cab driver and refreshingly down-to-earth fellow. When his ex-boss is found murdered in his apartment, Terry is fingered as the primary suspect. With dispatcher Carol at his side, they track down the real killers before the cops do.It is an entertaining and sometimes gritty amateur sleuth mystery that reminded me of Divorcing Jack by Colin Bateman. The pacing seemed right a [...]

    2. In keeping with my theme of reading books by Indie authors; tonight I add another. Death on a Dirty Afternoon. I don't usually catch a series at the first book. Usually I'm late to the party. This time, I was right on time. Here's what grabbed my attention- the title. Who could pass that one by. Reading this novel will put you in danger of chuckles and attempts to go rogue on your own sleuthing expedition to find out who killed Frank. This was a fun read that can be read in a few hours. I have t [...]

    3. A quirky, engaging murder mystery with an unusual amateur sleuth, Terry, an ex-taxi driver. I especially liked the central characters, Terry and Carol. They aren't super heroes, they are every day people who worked for a taxi firm. A little rough around the edges, funny at times, realistically human and determined to discover why their friend ended up dead on his kitchen table. When they feel their lives are in danger and they see more of the local police detective than they'd like they continue [...]

    4. QUITE COMPLICATEDI’ve given my review this heading as it took me a while to sort out who was who and as the dead bodies piled up, I was confused for a while. In places I had to concentrate on the northern English accents with several local words that were unfamiliar. The story was good and it flowed well though Terry the hero took rather too many risks for my comfort zone.

    5. Terry is a taxi driver, or was until a few weeks ago. He arrives home to find his collegue stone cold dead on his kitchen table. He then finds his former boss dead as well. Having thought that there were intruders in the house, he picks up a hockey stick that had been left from the previous occupants and then realises it is the murder weapon and his fingerprints are all over it. You get the gist. This is a lighthearted read that has a smile on almost every page. A hapless chap trying to get hims [...]

    6. My review of Death on a Dirty Afternoon, by Colin Garrow.I read Death on a Dirty Afternoon in a day, not because it’s a short read, but because I wanted to find out who killed Big Ronnie, boss of a taxi firm. This was the first book I’ve read by this author and I’d cheerfully read another. I’ll try not to reveal the plot in this review as that spoils everyone’s fun. I didn’t work out whodunit, as the author did a sterling job keeping up the suspense. I was particularly charmed by the [...]

    7. Terry Bell has recently quit his job as a taxi-driver in Gateshead (on the Tyne, in the North-East of England), when two people associated with the taxi company meet with sudden deaths. First to go is Frank, another driver with the company. There’s nothing suspicious about the fact of Frank’s death — he seems to have suffered a heart attack — but that doesn’t explain how he ended up lying peacefully on his back on his own dining room table. Ronnie’s death, on the other hand, is defin [...]

    8. Death on a Dirty Afternoon is an original, delightfully narrated murder mystery, with a tone and style that reminds me of those black and white American private detective movies. Only this story takes you on a tour of the north east around Newcastle with taxi driver, Terry Bell, at the wheel, trying to make sense of the body he found on a dining table and the murder of Big Ronnie.Filled with colourful description and characters with names like Bench Face and Gorilla Boy, this is an intriguing, t [...]

    9. I was totally absorbed in the seedy side of this little English beach-town. The murders of two people in cabbie Terry Bell's life pull him into the middle of a murky mess that he's only peripherally aware of. The mystery, like life itself, is a little open-ended but is resolved in a very satisfactory way. I will be reading more of Mr Garrow's work and will be anticipating the next Terry Bell mystery.

    10. A great read.I loved this book from the first page, Terry is a solid character. It had the taste of a classic crime book enhanced with dark humour. You should read this book.

    11. This is my kind of book. It starts with a body on a table, wends its way through a devious and interesting series of surprises, and winds up with a satisfying conclusion where the bad guys get what’s coming to them. Our hero, Terry, is a cab driver in an unspecified town in the North East of England, and this leads to two things: a handy way for him to get around the place, and call on mates when he needs a bit of a hand; and secondly, a lovely turn of phrase from that Geordie tongue. Garrow us [...]

    12. ‘Death on a Dirty Afternoon’ is the first in the ‘Terry Bell Mysteries” by Colin Garrow.Terry’s ‘cabbie’ friend Frank is found dead and everyone believes he had a heart attack until their former boss turns up murdered.Terry, an ex-cabbie driver gets drawn in when he believes the police are not acting on obvious clues. This story is a good mystery with dark humour – certainly one that will make you smile at times.
