    1. Siege of Shadows by Sarah Raughley is the second book in the Effigies series. A young adult science fiction fantasy series readers were introduced in the first book to high school student Maia Finley who knew that one of her idols must have died because Maia had been chosen to take her place as the new Fire Effigy. There were always four Effigies at any given time and when one died another young girl is chosen by fate to inherit the magical abilities of one of the four elements. When the city of [...]

    2. Sailor Moon meets Pacific Rim, YES PLEASE!! The concept and the world with all its dangerous monsters was super fascinating. I enjoyed the scifi and superhero vibe. Not to mention how the mysterious plot drove me to keep reading so I could uncover where the deadly phantoms come from and what the antagonists ultimate goals were. I thought Saul made an intriguing antagonist and I loved how I never knew who to trust. I thought the action was fantastic and made for a gripping pace. I also really l [...]

    3. Warning: This book contains a huge cliffhanger ending!Saul has escaped, and its up to Maya and the other Effigies to find him and capture him. The only problem is that he has gone off the grid for over two months, with no leads. The other problem is, that Sect employees let Saul out, meaning that the Sect can no longer be trusted. So when a mysterious dying man in the desert tells the Effigies that there are Effigie-like soldiers coming for them, the Effigies don't know who to trust, or how to g [...]

    4. --*Disclaimer: A copy of Siege Of Shadows by Sarah Raughley was provided to me by Simon & Schuster Canada in exchange for an honest review. This does not effect my opinion in any way.--It feels like I just read Fate Of Flames yesterdaybut it also doesn't?! On one hand, I still remember everything that happened in the first novel. On the other, it feels like I have ben waiting for this sequel for a while now! I've been eager to find out what happens next with the Effigies and I was so happy w [...]

    5. This is Raughley’s follow up to Fate of Flames so if you enjoyed that then your anxious waiting to find out the Fate of her intrepid characters will feel like it had been well worth it.You definitely need to make sure you have already read the first because all the world building, rules, foundation and so forth is all encased there and you won’t have the full picture otherwise. Especially as the first chapter drops you right in the thick of things. She does provide a small kind of wrap up to [...]

    6. Wow, this book was just so fantastic! So enjoyable, and so much happened, and then that ending! That hurt, and then was such a cliffhanger! I need the final book in this trilogy!

    7. I received an Advanced Reader's Copy of this title. This is the second book in the Effigies series which is based on a girl name Maia. Maia is a fire Effigie, meaning she can control the fire element. She is part of a group of badass girls; think Powerpuff Girls or Sailor Moon. Each one can control an element which helps them fight off these monsters called Phantoms. Maia has finally become one of the group, and feels like she is starting to know who she is, when she discovers news that Rhys, the [...]

    8. I don't think I can even form a coherent sentence right now. THAT ENDING. WHAT. THE. HELL. This book isn't even out yet and I'm already dying for the next one. I know I say all the time for every book that I need the next book right now, but that need has never been so desperate. If you liked Fate of Flames, this sequel will have you hooked from page one, and the ending will leave you with such a mix of emotions that you won't even know how to feel. Also as an aside, there's a scene of an awards [...]

    9. *Source* NetGalley*Genre* Young Adult, Fantasy*Rating* 3.0*Thoughts*Siege of Shadows is the second installment in author Sarah Raughley's The Effigies series. 16-year old Maia Finley has taken her place as the fire Effigy alongside Lake, Chae Rin, and Belle, who has been an Effigy for 6 years. Each of the Effigies have the power of different elements like fire, earth, water, and air. Each one of the Effigies can also summon weaponry unique to each of their elements. There are four Effigies at a [...]

    10. I'm not even sure where to start on this reviewSIEGE OF SHADOWS left me reeling! If you're unfamiliar with this book, SIEGE OF SHADOWS is the sequel to FATE OF FLAMES, the first book in Sarah Raughley's Effigies series. Set in an alternate version of our world where spirit-like monsters called phantoms exist and plague the world, the series follows one main character named Maia. Maia is an Effigy, one of four girls with elemental powers able to fight the phantoms. These books have serious Sailor [...]

    11. SIEGE OF SHADOWS by Sarah Raughley is the sequel to last year's fantastic debut, Fate of Flames. For centuries, four girls are bestowed elemental powers to fight off the monster like phantoms and protect the world from destruction. They are called the Effigies. In the present day, new Effigy Maia and her oddball team of girls must face a new threat, Saul and his plans to destroy or save (however you look at it) world. They must learn to work together to get to the bottom of this global disaster [...]

    12. High-stakes, non-stop action, and a level of dark mystery we haven’t seen yet in this story. We often talk about second book syndrome in a series but it’s not often I find a sequel to far surpass its predecessor in quality. Siege of Shadowsgives us everything I was hoping for in Fate of Flames. We get answers to some of the too many questions we were left with and much needed backstory, but we also get tension and character development and riveting drama and a whole new level of ruthless. I [...]

    14. I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

    15. This is probably more of a 3.5, but I ended up enjoying this a lot more than I expected, so I'm willing to round up to a 4.

    16. DNF, it put me in a slump and the format was not the best to read on my phone. Can’t get into this series.

    17. I LOVE DYSFUNCTIONAL, REALISTIC CHARACTERS AND ACCURATE DEPICTIONS OF THE COMPLICATIONS OF DOMESTIC ABUSEso i finally started shipping the shipi want the next book to be in Belle's pov. i so want.

    18. Disclaimer: I received an Advanced Reader Copy of Siege of Shadows by Sarah Raughly from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Set to be released in North America on November 21, 2017, Siege of Shadows is the second book in Sarah Raughley’s Effigies series (which is a planned trilogy). Siege of Shadows follows up the lack luster performance of Fate of Flames (November 22, 2016). In this second installment, Maia and the other Effigies seek out the true origins of the Phantoms that terrori [...]

    19. How to describe Book 2 of these Effigies in one wordCREEPY. The writing style is great, LOVE the scenes where these four girls must work together in defeating bad guys and phantoms, and Maia has an incredible heart doing all she can to protect this "family" she is now part of.Chae Rin is my fave character; she has such a mouth on her but she is real and very loyal to the others. No matter how hurt she gets physically, she is always ready to protect the other girls and humanity against Saul and t [...]

    20. First I want to say a big thank you to , and Simon & Schuster Canada for giving me an early copy of this fantastic story! I was lucky enough to win a giveaway, and from the second I got it in the mail I wanted to devour it! I got and read the first book, Fate of Flames, last year when it came out, and devoured that, so I could not wait for the sequel! This was the perfect sequel to an amazing story! This action packed story had me on the edge of my seat, pretty much, throughout the entirety [...]

    21. This sequel to Fate of Flames picked up not long after the first book left off and it showed right away that there was still plenty of story and action to tell in this series. There was more character growth and world-building added to the overall story, and it definitely added more twists. I really liked seeing how the bond between the four Effigies was developing and the group had such an interesting contrast. There was Maia, the main character, as the newbie; Lake as the girl who was afraid t [...]

    22. Maia has started settling into her role as the Effigy of Fire. Starting to get used to the fact that at any day she could be killed by a Phantom that would love to destroy Earth or that the side effects of fame are real and messing with her life. And then there's the fact that the Fire Effigy before her was murdered, possibly by the guy she finds cute. So there's that. And an international terrorist. Maia's really holding things together. It was. I just don't know. How I described ti to a friend [...]

    23. Honestly I loved this book more than the second one. My family has a tradition where every christmas eve we get a book and have to read it before christmas morning and I'm 100% glad i received the second book for it. I love the story line and the characters. Everyone has issues that have been difficult for them to deal with. The inner battles in the characters adds so much depth to this story. I really could connect with every character. This book had me smiling, crying, laughing, and in shock b [...]

    24. "PACIFIC RIM meets the AVENGERS with a SAILOR MOON cast" by Sarah RoughlyWhen I first read that last year, I snatched the first book and devoured it it was really good and held a lot of potential. Unfortunately for me they weren't met in this next installment. It was too messy, a lot was going on, no moment of rest to understand everything, you got information coming out ou way you don't know why, what, where, when It was nice to be back with the 4 Effigies but I am a little disappointed with th [...]

    25. I was lucky enough to win an arc of this AMAZING second book in the Effigies series. I quickly read the first book before this one and though it was good, this book was so much better! It was action-packed and well written. I couldn't put this book down, but at the same time it was so good that I didn't want it to end. I can't believe the ending I'm still in shock! I can't wait for the next book to come out!!!

    26. That ending! Come on, after those last two chapters, I NEED the sequel - don't just leave me hanging. Ugh. Oh, right, review - not just word vomit. Awesome characters, Maia's settling in more and I like the way the team is starting to feel. The only thing keeping this from a 5 star is the fact that there's moments where the plot starts to feel a little typically dystopian - and there's a reason I'm not a fan of dystopians. But the characters, I love these characters so much.

    27. Wow! Just wow! Didn’t see that ending coming at all! I can happily say that this book was outstanding and killed me at the same time. I loved how intense the story line and plot became (aka COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN) and the interaction between the characters was AWESOME AND SO POWERFUL! I just loved this book so much and loved entering this fandom. The Effigy fandom! I can’t wait for the next book to come out!(5/5)⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
