    1. 2.5 out of 5 starsTW: abusive behaviour, attempted suicide.I received an advanced copy of this at a blogger night I attended here in Sydney and I was so so excited to read this book. It's Beauty & the Beast from the Beast's perspective which just sounded incredibly interesting to me. I'll admit that I had my doubts going into this book because how do you make a character loveable when they are the 'villain' for a lot of the story? There were a few things I enjoyed a lot about this book- the [...]

    2. I had the pleasure of receiving this ARC from Hachette Publishers: Date a Book Team during their exclusive blogger night and I also had the pleasure of engaging in a read along with 3 amazing bloggers who are also dear friends and the author herself! (Now a dear friend to us all) this was so beautifully written - I felt like I was reading a classical, melodic, fairytale with all the feels that really came to life in my mind!!! An amazing story that developed beautifully, fantastically well defin [...]

    3. **Disclaimer (to pinch the lovely transparent wording that Robin Hobb uses): I obtained an ARC from the author who is a personal friend. I don't think this influenced my opinion, but disclosing in the interests of transparency.**I posted on twitter after I finished this book this morning that I think I might have a new favourite Beauty and the Beast retelling. This was at least on par for me with my previous favourite (Robin McKinley's Beauty). I don't read a lot of fairy tale retellings but I h [...]

    4. Where has this book been all my life? As with a lot of fellow readers and romance lovers, Beauty and the Beast is one of my all-time favourite fairy-tales and so the prospect of reading a re-telling of the story from the Beast's perspective was too good an opportunity to miss. What's strange is that reading this book didn't feel like reading just another re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. It's a story that is entirely it's own and in certain aspects, extremely different than the original story. [...]

    5. Ok, because my lovely friend Marta is sitting on my desk flicking through museum pamphlets and telling me I should start my review on a positive to soften the blow, I’ll say that the writing in The Beast’s Heart was pretty good. Leife has a lovely style of prose, there’s no doubt about that. It’s just a shame about the content. So The Beast’s Heart is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast as told from the perspective of the Beast. This makes for a difficult story to tell, admittedly, sinc [...]

    6. This book is so beautifully written, you’ll feel the magic, the intricate storytelling, the love, all the feels that you can expect from a Beauty and the Beast retelling. I love that it’s set in around about the 17th-century era, the restraint, the language and politeness all add to the charming storytelling. I love the characters, my fav has to be Marie. I’m also totally in love the Beast too as you’ll see everything from his perspective! This is a wonderful, magical and a timeless boo [...]

    7. TWs: abuse, mentions of rape, attempted suicide.I'm going to be candid, I finished this book feeling really disappointed. I thought it was going to be an enigmatic retelling filled with magic and adventure, but instead the plot was slow and the writing repetitive and overdone. I had so many problems with the Beast's entitlement and expectation that Isabeau should be his and his alone and love him the same way he loved her. He constantly pursues her physically and verbally, and the way he tries t [...]

    8. I received this as a free book through First Reads, and am so glad I did so.We all know the story of Beauty and the Beast in at least one version (mine is probably Disney's) so I have nothing to say with regards to the storyline. This book is wonderfully written through the eyes of the Beast and in this case he is also the Beauty in his heart. This is a classic fairy tale for a young adult.

    9. The book itself is eloquently written, it's such a unique take on the tale we all know and love, it's also really hard to put down!

    10. Sadly I just couldn’t get into this book and so with a heavy heart I have to say this was not for me.

    11. 2.5Review to come hopefully if I can get my life sorted and stop being so lame.***-I was given an advanced copy of this book by the lovely Date a book team.-I thought the prose in this book was quite lovely if not a bit cumbersome. I thought I would get frustrated with the needlessly wordy passages, but I realized that without them, this book would have had very little content.I did start to subconsciously play word-bingo while reading it though, counting every time she would say "despondent" or [...]

    12. I D.N.F this book. I won this in a giveaway and has such high hopes. It sounded magical and enchanting- with beauty and the beast being one of my favourite films I was immediately engaged by the story. The writing is absolutely beautiful, creating some amazing imagery, but I just found the protagonist of the beast to be very slow going. At 135 pages in I still wasn’t engaged resulting in me having to put it down. Unfortunately this book was just not for me and I so wish I could’ve appreciate [...]

    13. I was so intrigued by the concept of Beauty and the Beast told from the Beast’s perspective. But this book was voyeuristic and made me super uncomfortable! I get that the Beast didn’t have much to do, but watching his sort-of friend’s family through a magic mirror is creepy! I also wish that there had been at least one female character who didn’t want to get married. I’m sure people will tell me that was the time they lived on but Marie had aspirations and I wanted her to kick ass in a [...]

    14. I really like the original beauty and the beast story and love the disney film. I thought hearing the beasts perspective would be interesting. Firstly, the narrative could get quite boring or repetitive as it was mostly the beast talking. However it did get more interesting when other characters and their stories were introduced. I then could not wait to finish the book to see how this version ended. I wasn't disappointed.

    15. 3.5 stars. Beautifully written but not at all what I expected. It was missing something for me but an enjoyable read.

    16. Popsugar Reading Challenge #34. A book that's published in 2018I love "Beauty and the Beast". The bookish heroine, the moral not to judge by appearances, the magic curseIt's just a beautiful story. So I had high expectations going into this story. I really loved the portrayal of the Beast. You understand how he managed to get himself cursed, but at the same time, he's not so awful at the beginning that you loathe him. Also, the details about Isabeau's family were great as it added a lot to her c [...]

    17. Thank you Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for this advanced copy! I love fairy tale retellings, and Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite stories. At least it had been until I started to think about the deeper implications of the plot (kidnapping, stockholm syndrome, etc). Nonetheless I was excited to read this book to see what new spin could be put on this tale. It was a refreshing take from the Beast's perspective - trying to understand his initial confusion at his circumstances; so [...]
