    1. A good account of Chile's transition from "political liberty/economic tyranny" under Allende, then to "economic liberty/political tyranny" under Pinochet, and finally to liberty. That this could happen at all is noteworthy. Is there a difference in value between societies that are half free? Can it be said that the Pinochet version of half-freedom is more likely to lead to liberty than the socialist version of half-freedom? This book is a good step towards answering that.

    2. A short history of Chile from the Conquistadors through post-Pinochet. It's got someone like me who knew little about Chile's history up to speed, but was a bit dry at times.
