    1. Well, that was quite enjoyable! This was a strange place to start this series, at number 14, but it just so happened to be the one I found secondhand first. I generally go out trawling the op shops once a month, and whatever is there is there, if you know what I mean. Now I'm going to have to hunt down more of these gems!Basically the thing I liked most about this book was Desiree herself. She was just such a flawed individual; bitchy, judgemental, prone to eating two slices of pie instead of on [...]

    2. 5.0 out of 5 stars Fun all the way through, July 31, 2011 By Ellen Rappaport (Florida) - See all my reviews This review is from: Murder Can Depress Your Dachshund (Desiree Shapiro Mystery #14) (Paperback) This was my first Desiree Shapiro book for me. It had been recommended by one of my cozy mystery lovers online members.des I am the proud owner of 2 rescue dachshunds and thought this might be a good choice for me.This author brings her own sense of humor into her book from the first page. she [...]

    3. This is the first Desiree Shapiro novel I've read. To be honest, the reason I was attracted to the book in the first place is because Dachshund is in the title. I love those cute little doxies!I enjoyed the book. I found the numerous remarks about her eating habits, her weight, her pants being too tight, etc a bit tedious, though. The only other comment I have about the book is that the characters were really well written. I mean each character spoke perfect English, as if they were all fastidio [...]

    4. Ms Eichler gets two stars only because the characters, for the most part, are well developed. Entire chapters would go by with absolutely no sleuthing going on. Reading about a "detective" sitting on the cauch watching movies is filler, not an element moving the story along. As for the Dachshund--she's beside the point. Don't bother reading this one unless you have absolutely nothing else to read.

    5. I don't think I will read more of the series -- the language may be charming to folks who are fond of New York, but I found it tedious, overdone and sloppy. The plot meandered about -- the most interesting piece for me was the insistence on recording meetings and the time spent on them that indeed finally breaks the case.

    6. Desiree Shapiro found out who killed the universally loved Jordy Mills, just before he was going to donate a kidney to his despised brother Cornell Mills. And Desiree's personal life is taking an interesting turn as well.

    7. This is a good mass market mystery if you need something light and fluffy to read after reading something heavy. This PI or private investigator, is a New York Jewess who is fat, loves to dine out, and bumbles her way to solving her cases by sheer luck! She is a delightful character!

    8. This was the first one I read & I got hooked. I love that she is not your typical PI-she is better in my book. Love the books I have read, sorry that the series has ended. Miss you Dez.y

    9. Somewhat tired and predictable (although I still didn't see who did it until it was pointed out). You can see the series is starting to show its age.
