    1. [These notes were made in 1989:]. This is a modern selection of Allingham's work, by an editor who, tho' an obvious partisan, admits that some of the material he omitted is "engagingly bad." Based on this selection, I can't say I'm a tremendous fan of Mr. Allingham, born & for some part employed in Ireland, but fleeing frequently to England & English culture.
